The new faces of facebook and Delicious

I am a big fan of web design, although I don’t have time and opportunities to put this passion into much action, I do enjoy looking at good designs. Delicious and Facebook, two of many Web 2.0 web sites I visit almost constantly daily, recently got their glassy round-corner’d new faces. It seems obvious to me that I particularly like two types of styles for websites, the typical “Web 2.0″ ones just as the two said web sites, which are glassy, round-corner’d, and the other type is the almost geekily minimal interface, such as hot-deals.org. Sometimes, you can also get the feeling of the two styles from the same place. The ideal style for web site should be a balance point between the two. In the era of web applications, functionalities built on top of neat interface rules.

This is absolutely not a boring advertisement video. It reminds me so much of my college life.

American Idol finale 2008

Fortunately enough that I did not miss the finale of American Idol tonight. I followed this show since early this season and had to miss almost all shows after the top 16 was selected. Daivid Archuleta was my favorite contestant since the very beginning and I was not at all surprised to see him as one of the two finalists tonight.

Gut feeling often works better than sophisticated judging in non-intellectual domains. And American Idol is one of them, at least for a naive outsider like me. You can see these singers grow up a lot during the experience, however the core of their performances, the art itself, did not get significantly improved/changed.

In the first round, neither Cook nor Archuleta did well enough to win my complete support, neither Simon’s. After the second round, it was almost clear that Archuleta is at some advantage. And as the third round started, it was so obvious to me that Archuleta is going to be the one. However I don’t think tonight’s presentation of the song “Imagine” is the best Archuleta have given so far. Nevertheless, it is already overwhelmingly well done and more than enough for him to win the contest.

Favorite quotes by Bruce Lee

It is the simple rules that people will ignore and therefore need to be reiterated.

The greatest power is often in the simplest rules.

After all the dust settles,  …

The use of knowledge is realized when we apply it.

The value of wish is realized when we actualize it.
